CSI
Last Friday morning at 6:18 am I heard 2 very loud gunshots, a 20 second span of quiet, and then a couple more gunshots. I was in the bedroom getting around and was ready to go get Abby and take her outside. Todd had left that morning on a business trip around 3:45 am. I couldn’t believe how loud the gunshots were and I thought to myself that I hope someone in our neighborhood didn’t loose their mind and shoot their spouse or family member. That is an awful thing to think but it was the first thing that went through my mind in the world we live in today.
I glanced outside and looked through the windows all around the house and did not see anything so I proceeded to take Abby out about 10 minutes after I heard the gunshots.
Fast forward to Sunday afternoon. While I’m outside with Abby again, Todd gets a phone call from our neighbor across the street. He proceeds to tell Todd that someone shot a bullet through their mailbox posts and he wanted to tell us because he knows that “Kevin” (Evan) plays outside. He noticed the bullet holes on Saturday. When Todd tells me about the phone conversation I proceed to tell him that I know exactly when the bullet was shot through the mailbox.
Todd went outside to look at his mailbox and then came in and told me I had to go see it. The freaky thing was that whoever shot the mailbox had to be standing on our property. The bullet went through the first mailbox post and into the second post and then dropped to the ground inside the 2nd post. No doubt from the angle of the shot that the shooter was on our property. This kind of freaks me out because I’m wondering who would do this and what if I would have been out with Abby a few minutes earlier? Was this someone shooting at an animal for some reason or just out for casual target practice? We live in a pretty quiet neighborhood with not a lot of activity.
Our neighbor wanted to call the police when he found the holes but his wife wasn’t too keen on it because they are trying to sell their house and didn’t want it in the paper. Yes – our small town paper puts everything in it. No news is too insignificant to report. Todd thinks we should report it. I’m thinking to myself that there isn’t a whole lot they can do. He thinks they will analyze the bullet and be able to figure out what kind of a gun it was, etc.
By the way – if they would have shot a bit higher it would have gone right into our neighbors house. Hopefully it won’t happen again and it was just some freaky thing.

Yikes, Lisa! Hopefully it was just a one-time thing. Still...how scary!
